I recommend this site to anyone and everyone. The world is certainly a crazy place and understanding why is part of that problem. It seems America is no angel and should practice what they preach. It's devastating to watch TV feed us with info that individuals do not question. Thankyou for presenting the truth in a forward and defined way. I have never read the real scope of the situation put so bluntly before, which is so vitally important. The world needs to handle the truth.
I agree Amreica needs to practice a consistent Forien policy. The duality of the message is very troubleing. We, Americans of which I count myself as one, are against operssive regimes, yet we support them. Sadam is evil we are supposed to oppose him (frankly, I think he sucks). Yet on the flip side we support the Israeli goverment's Palistinian policy, a policy that is compared with the worst of Apartied. No matter what the President of the United States says about a peace process, or halting settlements he doesn't mean it. We are behind it all the way we pay for it. If we were a peaceful nation and at all interested in peace we would withhold the money that keeps Israel alive until a peace is established. The American media is a willing participant of the duping of America. It tailors the visual truth to meet the message. It is a propaganda tool of the establishment. The "Showdown with Iraq" is a perfect example. The daily news is full of inflamitory stories of Iraq and stories that vilify Sadam. Eventually the country will fall in line with G. W. Bush's policy without question. The sad truth that while we are a great nation, our greatness is only in wealth & power and not in deeds. There is great potential we just need to realize it. Food for thought Osama did offer to fight against Iraq before the Gulf war.
Well, to be honest, I think there is more to this perpetual war than is said above. The war is not simply for oil, the war is simply for the economic stability for a country that war provides. With the end of the cold war, something needed to be done to keep up the military spending, and thus, thrusting the economy upwards. There have been very few times that we were not in some conflict with some other country, and I severely doubt that all throughout history, various parts of the world decided to pick a fight with us. It really doesn't have any benefits from almost any standpoint. Now, this is not to say that every war or conflict we have been involved with has been pointless. I agree with the stopping of attrocities that are going on in the world, such as mass genocide, as it is good to use the power we have for something good, but really, with power generally comes abuse of that power. Vietnam was really not that necessary. Is it any surprise that countries would like to have nuclear weapons? If this country were to suddenly come under some sort of dictatorship (which I believe is not very likely, but always a possibility due to the ease of which Americans tend to believe what people tell them to. I'd want some sort of safety trigger to have. As stated previously in the article, we don't fight countries that have nuclear weapons...that just wouldn't be smart. But really, should other countries not have the same safety just because they aren't as technologically advanced? We do use our power for good on occasion, but at the same time we abuse it. I am definitely not saying that I think that America is bad in general, I think it has great potential. Its just somewhat sad that our economy rests in the hands of our military. Also, it really wouldn't be easy to change, since a sudden change in that way would leave us extremely vulnerable. Sadly, I don't see peace in the near future, but as long as our nation's leaders see war as our economic backbone, it will be very difficult to change anything.
Please. Give me a break. American news agencies report the number of dead Americans in a plane crash because they are speaking to an American audience. I was in Russia when a Siberian airliner crashed - they did the same thing. That is such and invalid point it mitigates the rest of your argument. Listen I don't agree with everything America does overseas or domestically, but are we supposed to sit a watch the fanatical leaders of other parts of the world destroy their own? The way I see it we will be criticized no matter what we do - if not by other, by our own citizens. War is a nasty thing. We hate it cause it kills people and we believe that human life is of utmost importance. The tricky shit here is that so many other cultures are not that sympathetic toward all human life as we in the "west" are.

i'm glad that more and more, everyday, I'm hearing similar people write along these same political beliefs-unfortunately it's not in mainstream media. I think that should be the goal of journalists, such as yourself-to spread this type of thinking to a wider audience so that stopping the war in iraq actually has a chance of happening.

I wish more people were as intelligent as the individual that wrote this. If there were more people like this person in America, George Jr. wouldn't be in office and the defense budget would be cut by hundreds of billions of dollars and America would have the support of the rest of the world. Instead the rest of the world only agrees with us out of fear or billions of dollars worth of foreign aid. This is a good site, and I think its good that Americans are starting to stand up and realize what they're government is doing. As a Canadian I see these things every day, and also as a Canadian I see the crap the CNN and other news agencies feed to Americans. Take the current WAR ON IRAQ for example. The only countries which even support the US are countries that are very small and basically have no choice and Britain. Every other country and the UN are condeming any military action against Iraq.

George Bush is not my president. He doesnt care about Americans. As shown by his major religious references and his new laws about suspecting anyone of that nationality, he obviously doesnt give a shit about how our country is SUPPOSED to be a melting pot of religion and skin color. I also read America supported Osama. He was an honorable young man, and maybe still is. Who are we to judge? We helped train him, and he used his suicide bombers on the communist government of Afganistan. And we all know how that country ended up because of America. One of the reasons why Osama attacked us was Yugoslavia, of course. I hear the American puppets there talk about the "ethnic cleansing", and that Milosevic was so horrible. I think we provoked him into this. When we dropped depleted uranium shells from warplanes, he had no choice but to surrender. I know these shells are usually shot from a tank cannon, but they needed to be tested first, and that was one of the real reasons for the war. They say they don't explode but home in by laster targetting. But I'm really concerned our military has gone nuts, terrorising people like that. In any case I'm sure everyone has cancer now, and will soon be dead. Do you remember the reasons given for this war by the UN? When you say America's war I think you mean the UN but they are really a US puppet. They say we were fighting Milosevic, and even show video of him in the world court, another American puppet. In the meantime all the Kosovo Muslims are still dying from the uranium. Who are we to have done such a thing? I see your pictures, and think that only the Americans could mangle bodies like this. I am not sure how I stumbled upon this site. I actually did a Yahoo search to learn how to make a slate patio, but now I am here and am amazed at some of the garbage I am reading and even more amazed that I am actually writing a response. To believe that you are all so wise in the way the world should work and that our president and his cabinet are just ignorant is pretty moronic. Democracy is such a great thing, that I actually have to appreciate that you are all free to express your opinions, but you are all doing your self such an injustice not to look around and really see how great a democracy we have. It has helped me relize that the war will never be over until all those people living on the streets, all those children hungry, and all those families, are safe, back home, and being loved by each other. When I read this I started crying when I saw the photos of those prople all over the ground and the road, and it makes you wonder is America as strong as it looks??
